Council
John Lusk just finished his second term on the Oak Point Planning and Zoning Commission, was serving as the Vice Chairman before being elected to City Council in June 2016. John was re-elected in 2018 and again in 2020.

Places Lived
John is a native son of North Texas – born in Gainesville, lived in Carrollton, Austin, Dallas and Arlington. He has traveled all over the world for work and pleasure but never lived anywhere but Texas!

Family
John’s family roots in North Texas date back to the 1850’s La Reunion settlement in Dallas. Heard of Reverchon Park in Dallas – that was named for his GG great-uncle Julian Reverchon, a famed botanist.

John’s family roots in Oak Point go back to the 1920’s, long before the city even existed! His great-grandfather bought land on then-new Lake Dallas and built a fishing cabin on what would later become Cedar Pine Lane. No water or electricity in those days. Cut cross country from Preston Road to get to the lake. That land was passed down to his grandmother’s (Louise Caillet Dieterich) sisters, his great-aunts (Shirley Welch and Marie Caillet) in the 1950’s.

Early Life
John came to the lake many times as a young boy, to fish and play in the lake. He fell in love with the area. He says he can remember when Crescent Oaks was new and the road south was a dirt road.

John purchased the two properties from the great-aunts in the last 15 years. John and his family have been living in Oak Point on the weekends and holidays since 1999. He and his wife moved here permanently in 2014, after selling their home in Arlington.

John has been married for 23 years to Katherine, the love of his life. John is retired but Katherine is a senior director at Childrens Health Systems in Dallas. They have a daughter who just graduated college and a son in Plano providing professional financial planning advice. One grand-daughter (age 4), who loves to hang out with her Grandpa at the lake. His brothers, sisters, mother and many in-laws live in North Texas and they often get together “at the lake” for family gatherings.

Other Employment
John worked in the semiconductor electronics world for 30 plus years, including time at Motorola and Texas Instruments (TI). John retired from TI in 2013.

John’s hobbies and activities include:

Bird Watching
Boating
Collecting engineering tools (such as slide rules)
Genealogy
Nature Observation
Remodeling and leasing rental properties
John is also active in the Dallas Corinthian Yacht Club at the south end of Oak Point. John served on the Board of Governors and now serving as the club Harbormaster.
