Now in his third term, Mayor Stewart was born in Dallas and has lived in University Park for more than 62 years. A graduate of Highland Park High School, he earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. President of Connell Construction Company and Vice President of Connell Development Company, Mayor Stewart remains active in real estate development and has held leadership positions in local and state industry associations. A Councilmember from 2010 to 2016, he chaired the 2018 University Park Zoning Ordinance Review Committee and has served on the City’s Public Works, Public Safety and Capital Projects advisory committees. The Mayor’s non-profit involvement includes leadership roles with the Dallas Zoological Society and the Salesmanship Club of Dallas. A life-long member of Highland Park United Methodist Church, the Mayor is married to Barbie Connell Stewart. They have three children and 10 grandchildren.
