My name is Sherrie Koerner and I am thrilled to be the principal at Sunnyvale Elementary.

I grew up in East Texas and have lived in or around Dallas for 28 years.

This is my 24th year in education. I began my career at Henderson Elementary in Forney ISD as a general education teacher and taught kindergarten for 13 years. I then moved to Sunnyvale ISD where I taught kindergarten and 2nd grade for 6 years. After that, I moved into the district’s Dyslexia and ESL Coordinator position for 3 years where I taught 1st through 5th grade MTA and provided dyslexia and ESL services and professional development for all campuses. I then moved to serve as assistant principal at the elementary campus. I also served as our K – 5th grade Summer School and ESL/ESY Summer School principal for 3 years.

My educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Dallas Baptist University and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction and Administration from Texas A&M Commerce. I also have an Early Childhood Endorsement and certification in Special Education and ESL.

What I have loved most about Sunnyvale these past 11 years is its small town feel and the connection the community has with each other. It is a place like no other where the community supports its people, students and schools. That love and connection is what makes Sunnyvale unique and such a special place to raise your children. It is that unique connection that makes the phrase, “four campuses, one school” all the more meaningful. I am grateful every day to work in this amazing school district. I look forward to working with our little Raiders this year!
