Bio

Richard Fleming is a sixth-generation native North Texan. He grew up partly in Denison, Texas before moving to Farmers Branch in the 5th grade.In 2009, Richard was the First African American elected to serve on the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD School Board where he served three terms successfully.

Richard currently serves as a business mentor and coach to CFBISD students in the International Business Academy at Newman Smith Highschool as well he is a mentor to CFBISD’s Early College High School.

Richard is a board member for the Dallas 24 Hour Club which provides transitional living, support services and essential life skills for homeless alcoholics and addicts. Richard previously served as board member and treasurer for Metrocrest Services.

Richard is a former board member for Dress for Success-Dallas an organization benefiting disadvantage women in the Dallas Fort Worth area as well as throughout the country. Richard previously served on the board of Bea’s Kids garnering the Community Star Award in 2015. As a member of the Farmers Branch Rotary Club Richard was awarded the 2015 Community Service Award.

As a proven North Texas business and community leader, through his local, state, and national board advocacy work he has advocated for more resources for our students and teachers down in Austin during past legislative sessions for increased funding for our schools.

He has advocated for businesses in Austin and in Washington D.C. for tax and healthcare reform, tax parity, as well as access to capital.

Most recently while serving on tax policy member on business association in Washington D.C. worked with other business trade organizations to design the Payroll Protection Program for business throughout the U.S during the COVID-19 pandemic.
