Bio

Sunnyvale resident Lee Mathew, RN, MSN, MBA, NEA-BC has been appointed to the SISD Board of Trustees. Mathew was sworn in during the November board meeting. She joins the board with 17 years experience in the healthcare industry.

“We are excited to add Lee,” Superintendent Doug Williams said. “Her background and experience will provide a great resource to our Team of 8, especially during this unique school year. Her commitment to our district wellness and diversity teams and the PTA board have showcased her commitment and knowledge.”

Mrs. Mathew, who is the Director of Clinical Operations at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Sunnyvale, brings expertise and leadership in the healthcare industry to SISD’s governing board – qualities important to any district facing the challenges of a global pandemic. However, for SISD, Mrs. Mathew’s skills and experience also position her uniquely as an advocate for the many SISD students who participate in the Health Science Technology Program.

“I am passionate about developing new leaders and serving as a mentor to many in my professional and personal roles,” Mathew said. “One of my goals would be to support initiative that aids in innovation – which facilitates futuristic thinking and problem solving. My personal beliefs in mentoring and leadership development will naturally support the SISD goals of student learning, recruitment and retention, innovation and future readiness and overall wellness. My background in healthcare especially during the pandemic has been focused on psychological safety and overall well-being.”

Mrs. Mathew is also a passionate advocate for issues of diversity and inclusion and has served on the Diversity and Inclusion Team, which recently submitted recommendations to the Board of Trustees, which were unanimously approved.

“I think the board and school administration has done a great job of creating diversity as a priority,” Mrs. Mathew said. “I also think that diversity in thought and inclusivity will create an exceptional student body that will be effective leaders as they progress in their lives.”

Mrs. Mathew says that her passion for service in the community and her belief in quality education led to her decision to take on the role of trustee, a position made vacant when trustee Nick Sloan recently resigned. She believes that, “…the school board is responsible for laying the foundation and putting in the building blocks for students to learn, grow and achieve at the highest level possible.”

Mrs. Mathew and her husband, John, live in Sunnyvale with their twin children, Amelia and Nathanael, who attend Sunnyvale Elementary School.
