ohn Holley was elected to the Allen ISD Board of Trustees in May of 2024. John is a dedicated advocate for public education and community service, and he has deep roots in the Allen community where he and his wife, Gretchen, reside.

John’s journey in education began during his high school years when he volunteered at elementary schools, sparking a lifelong passion for teaching. John earned his Early Childhood Education degree at Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) where he also received the Lyndon Baines Johnson Outstanding Senior Award. John’s teaching career took him through various school districts, including Plano ISD, Dallas ISD, Garland ISD, and McKinney ISD. While in Plano, John was named the New Teacher of the Year at Rose Haggar Elementary. However, it was in Allen where John found his true home.

In 2003, John joined Bolin Elementary as a first-grade teacher. John then joined Anderson Elementary as a classroom teacher before opening Cheatham Elementary in 2010, where he earned the honor of Cheatham Elementary Teacher of The Year. John spent the remainder of his educational career at Cheatham Elementary until his retirement in 2023.

Throughout his teaching career, John’s dedication to his students extended beyond the classroom. He actively engaged with the Allen community, serving on the Parks and Recreation Board for 12 years and participating in various committees such as the Allen Public Arts Board Sub Committee, Allen Senior Recreation Center Committee, Allen Public Library Sub Committee, and the Allen USA Celebration Committee. John enjoys spending time outside on the golf course in his free time.
