Biography

Bio

Bobby Nevels brings over 32 years of dedicated service in Dallas ISD to his new role as Principal of Wilmer-Hutchins High School. His journey in education began in 1993 as a substitute teacher, followed by his entry into the District’s Alternative Certification Program. Over the next six years, he served as a classroom teacher at Thomas L. Marsalis Elementary, Leslie A. Stemmons Elementary, and Clinton P. Russell Elementary.

Nevels transitioned into campus leadership as an Assistant Principal at H.S. Thompson Learning Center. He later held the same role at Sarah Zumwalt Middle School and Oliver Wendell Holmes Middle School. His leadership experience deepened during his nine-year tenure as Assistant Principal at South Oak Cliff High School, where he oversaw core academic departments including English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Electives. He then served at W.H. Adamson High School, where he led the Academy of Finance and Academy of Health Science—both of which achieved NAF Distinguished status under his leadership.

As Principal of Dr. Frederick Douglass Todd Sr. Middle School (formerly Sarah Zumwalt Middle School), Nevels led the campus through significant growth. Under his leadership, the school saw gains in multiple core content areas, launched a pioneering computer science initiative that introduced students to coding and gaming, and implemented a rebranding campaign honoring a local community icon to elevate school pride. He also expanded extracurricular offerings, fostered a culture of inclusion and belonging, and implemented proactive discipline strategies that resulted in a dramatic decrease in serious behavior incidents and off-campus placements.

Now at the helm of Wilmer-Hutchins High School, Nevels is committed to driving student achievement, building staff capacity, and cultivating strong, trust-based relationships with students, families, and the community. He leads with purpose, passion, and a steadfast commitment to excellence.
